Yes — families can often spend time with their loved one before cremation, and in some cases be present as it begins. Here is how it works and what to ask for.
Can Family Be Present Before Cremation?
Being able to say goodbye matters. Many families want to know whether they can see their loved one, or even be present, before cremation. In most cases the answer is yes — and we will help you arrange whatever brings your family comfort.
At Inspired Funeral Home, we understand how meaningful these final moments can be, and we treat every request with care and without judgment.
Spending time with your loved one
Even when you choose cremation, you can still have a private viewing or a brief time with your loved one beforehand. This does not require embalming — refrigeration allows time for a private goodbye. For some families, a small gathering or a moment of prayer before cremation provides important closure.
Being present as cremation begins
Some families, for personal or religious reasons, wish to be present as the cremation begins — sometimes witnessing the start or taking part in a brief ceremony. Where facilities allow, this can often be arranged. Certain faith traditions include the family in this moment, and we are glad to accommodate those wishes whenever possible.
Identification before cremation
Families are also welcome to make a formal identification of their loved one beforehand. Many families find this reassuring, and it is a normal part of the care process. Just let us know it is important to you.
