1945 - 2026
In Loving Memory
With profound sadness and endless love, we announce the peaceful passing of Fermin Castañeda-Madera on July 3, 2026, at the age of 80. He passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home, surrounded by the love of his family.
Fermin was born on July 7, 1945, in Mezquitic, Jalisco, Mexico, to Hilario Castañeda and Perfecta Madera.
He was the devoted husband of Alicia Meza and the proud father of nine children: Elia, Hilda, Sonia, Martha Delia, Jesus Francisco, Jose Luis, Lilia Leticia, Brenda, and Mayra Isela Castañeda. He was also a loving grandfather to 23 grandchildren and a cherished great-grandfather to four great-grandchildren, all of whom brought him immense pride and joy.
A hardworking and selfless man, Fermin made the courageous decision to leave his beloved homeland of Mexico to build a better future for his children. Everything he did was for his family. He worked tirelessly, sacrificed without complaint, and gave all he had so his children could have opportunities he never had. His love was quiet, unwavering, and unconditional. It asked for nothing in return and gave everything.
Before immigrating to the United States, Fermin worked as a farmer in Mexico, where he developed a deep respect for the land and the value of honest work. After settling in the United States, he spent many years working in the hospitality industry, where his dedication and strong work ethic reflected the character of the man he was.
Fermin found happiness in life's simple moments. He loved taking family trips to the mountains, enjoying picnics at Sugar House Park, and spending time in his garden, where he took special pride in growing his tomatillo plants. Those moments, shared with the people he loved most, became treasured memories his family will carry forever.
Above all else, Fermin was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Family was the center of his world. His greatest accomplishment was not measured by what he owned, but by the family he nurtured, protected, and loved with all his heart. His kindness, humility, generosity, and quiet strength will continue to guide those who were blessed to know him.
Although our hearts are broken, we are forever grateful for the life he lived, the sacrifices he made, and the unconditional love he gave so freely. His legacy lives on through his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and the values he instilled in each of them.
He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
*"Those we love don't go away. They walk beside us every day. Unseen, unheard, but always near
