1945 - 2026

In Loving Memory

Lydia Lettig was born on the island of Palau on July 4, 1945, to her parents, Francisco and Maria Borja. She was one of eleven siblings, with whom she shared a close bond. As a young child, Lydia relocated with her family to the island of Guam, where she was raised in the village of Talo’fo’fo.

It was in Guam that Lydia met her loving husband, Paul Michael Lettig, who was stationed there in the Navy. They were married on January 10, 1968. Together, they welcomed four children: Teresa, Mike, Rick, and Mark, whom they loved unconditionally. Through the years, Lydia became an ever-loving grandmother to five grandchildren: Sysco, Tanner, Ashton, DeziLu, and Lydia.

Lydia was incredibly family-oriented and strived to be the most wonderful mother and grandmother she could be, always putting her family first. Many holiday and birthday celebrations were spent surrounded by family and close friends at Lydia and Paul’s home. Throughout the years, Lydia opened her home to many family members and friends with a warm and loving embrace, always making it her mission to ensure everyone felt welcomed, cared for, and that they belonged.

It was very common to walk into Lydia’s home and hear the words, “Are you hungry? Did you eat?” within the first five minutes of stepping through the door. Lydia loved cooking for her family and, for many years, hosted Sunday dinners at her home where her children and grandchildren gathered together. It was a weekly tradition everyone looked forward to, where so much love and laughter filled Lydia’s home.

Lydia had an incredible green thumb and loved planting and growing flowers and vegetables in her backyard. She could often be found outside in her garden during the spring and summer evenings, planting seeds and watering her many flowers. In addition to cooking and gardening, Lydia’s hobbies included road trips to visit family, shopping, and playing card games, which she eventually taught many of her children and grandchildren to play as well.

Lydia also dedicated approximately thirty years to working at The Red Iguana, where she met many people and built lasting relationships with co-workers who became lifelong friends.

When she wasn’t with family or tending to her garden, you could find her attending Saturday evening Mass at St. Patrick’s Church. Lydia was a longtime devout Catholic, and her faith and relationship with God were very important to her.

Lydia peacefully departed this world and returned to her heavenly home on May 18, 2026, surrounded by her children and grandchildren. Her departure from this earth has left a ripple of heartbreak throughout her family. She made an everlasting impact on this world and on everyone she encountered. Her great big hugs, kisses, laughter, jokes, infectious smile, and warm heart will forever be missed and forever imprinted on those who had the privilege of knowing her. She was an incredibly loving woman and will be deeply missed.

Lydia is survived by her children: Teresa (Tyler) Burningham, Michael Lettig, and Mark (Jessica) Lettig; her grandchildren: Sysco, Tanner, Ashton, DeziLu, and Lydia; and her siblings: Wilma, Ginny, Annie, Arthur, Angelica, Victor, Frankie, and Henry.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Francisco and Maria; her brother, Albert; her sister, Agie; her son, Rick; and her husband, Paul.

Carolyn Allen, Wilma Allen, and families

I have found memories of Auntie Lydia when I visited her and her family in Salt Lake City, on Guam when she was visiting her family there, in Nebraska when she attended my dad's funeral, and more recently in San Diego where we gathered for Auntie Agie's celebration of life in 2023. She was a loving Auntie, with an infectious laugh and always made you feel welcomed and valued. I will miss her smile and warm hugs. My condolances, blessings and many prayers to her family.
