1947 - 2026

In Loving Memory

William "Bill" Maestas, born September 23, 1947, passed away peacefully at his home in Taylorsville, Utah, on Saturday, June 20, 2026.

Bill was born in Taos, New Mexico, to Jose and Ida Maestas and grew up in Tooele, Utah. He was drafted into the United States Army right out of high school. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing the guitar and singing, most notably as a member of The Crossover Band.

Bill married his high school sweetheart, Cecilia Ann Candelaria, in 1968, and they remained together until her passing in 1985. Together they welcomed three children. On Valentine's Day in 1987, Bill married Julie, and together they welcomed two more children.

Outside of work, Bill enjoyed playing the guitar, gardening, spending time outdoors, and running marathons in his earlier years. He especially loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-granddaughters.

Those who knew Bill will remember him for his quick wit, sarcasm, love of music, interest in computers, and his beloved Flowbee.

Bill is survived by his loving wife, Julie (Reilly) Maestas, who took such great care of him while he battled cancer over the past year. He is also survived by his children: Carmen Maestas; Yvonne Ware (Steve); Rick Maestas (Rebekah); Aaron Maestas (Jayme); and Brandy Beach (Justin).

He was the proud grandfather of 11 grandchildren: Alicea, Danielle, Jacie (Ceasar), Adrienne (Calvin), Ethan, Ivan, Jonathan, Everett, August, Forrest, and Freya; and two great-granddaughters, Aleiah and Harlow.

Bill is also survived by his siblings: Vita Maestas, Raymond Maestas, Lawrence Maestas, Sarah Maestas, Anthony Maestas (Amy), and Rosita Vallejos (Dave).

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jose and Ida Maestas, as well as his sister, Trudy Maestas.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, July 1, at 11:00 a.m. at Utah Veterans Memorial Park, 17111 South 1700 West, Bluffdale, Utah 84065. It asked to leave a memory memories I do have of Bill back to the days when he was just a kid growing up in Tooele I knew the family and heard Bill playing the guitar and singing I heard him playing with his high school friends and knew there was something special about him, he sat in with us one evening right before Uncle Sam called him, when he served his time and was again back home I asked him to join our band which he did and from that moment on we became one of the hottest bands in Utah CrossOver because we not only played rock/roll we covered everything from Country music to Hispanic music, and Bills vocals and guitar picking just added to it and his harmonies with other was out of this world! As a club owner named him “the Canary” because of his voice. So Billy Bob you are no longer in pain you have now joined the Lords musical group plus visiting with your mom & dad sister and so many others that have gone before you so like I always would say…”keep on picking and grinning till we meet again” and don’t worry about Julie we will take care of her….love you Bill,…Rich
