In Loving Memory
Steven K. Gritton, age 72, of Salt Lake City, Utah, passed away peacefully at home on May 12, 2026, following a battle with COPD.
Steve was born on November 5, 1953, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Jacquelyn Nielsen and John Deloy Gritton. He grew up in Murray, Utah, and attended Murray High School.
Throughout his life, Steve worked as a welder, diesel mechanic, and truck driver. He was a hardworking and caring man who enjoyed helping others whenever he could. One of his greatest accomplishments was achieving and maintaining 22 years of sobriety, a milestone of which he was deeply proud. He often shared his experience and encouragement with others who were facing similar challenges.
Steve had a deep love for the outdoors and especially enjoyed sharing that passion with his grandchildren. He was an avid fisherman who treasured time spent on the water and never missed an opportunity to tell a good joke. His kindness, humor, and willingness to lend a helping hand will be remembered by all who knew him.
He is survived by his loving wife, Inga Gritton; his brothers, Kenneth (Dana) Gritton and Lance (Melody) Gritton; his children, Brandi Mercauta, Kimberly Clift, Cory Gritton, and Sarah Gritton; as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Steve was preceded in death by his father, John Deloy Gritton; his mother, Jacquelyn Gritton; and his beloved grandson, Austin Clift.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date in Salt Lake City, Utah.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations to a local homeless assistance organization in Steve's memory.
