William “Bill” Albert Durrer

William “Bill” Durrer, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, veteran, outdoorsman, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 4, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.Bill was born on January 30, 1946, to Werner William Durrer and Marilyn Jean Fernald. He grew up to become a hardworking, independent man who took great pride in providing for his family and living life on his own terms.For much of his life, Bill found his calling behind the wheel of a semi-truck. He spent many years as a professional truck driver, including working through Highland Transportation, Proxair, Thatcher Chemical, & Calco. The open road became an important part of who he was. He knew the highways, the miles, the solitude, and the freedom that came with life behind the wheel.Bill was also a proud United States Army veteran. His service was another reflection of the dedication, strength, and commitment that defined so much of his life.Outside of work, Bill was an outdoorsman at heart. He loved being outside, exploring, enjoying the beauty of nature, and making memories with the people he loved. But above everything else, Bill was a family man. His family was his greatest pride, and his grandchildren held a particularly special place in his heart.Those who knew Bill will remember his strength, his independence, his hardworking spirit, his love of the outdoors, and the stories that came from a lifetime of experiences. They will remember the truck driver who spent countless miles on the open road, the Army veteran who served his country, the outdoorsman who appreciated the world around him, and most importantly, the grandfather whose presence became part of the memories his family will carry forever.Bill’s final years were touched by Alzheimer’s disease. Although that illness changed many things, it could never erase the life he lived, the people he loved, or the memories he gave to his family. His loved ones were grateful for the time they had with him and for the opportunity to care for him and surround him with love during his final journey.Bill was preceded in death by his son, Lawrence (Larry) Durrer, parents, Werner William Durrer and Marilyn Jean Fernald; his brothers, Mike Durrer and Thomas Lynn Durrer; and his grandson, Jonathan Durrer.He is survived by his wife Karen Durrer, sister, Marilyn Brenz Muzquiz, and her husband, Charlie Muzquiz; his sister-in-law, Galene Durrer; his children, William “Billy” Durrer, Annie Butler, Tammy Magaña, Holly Young, Steven Durrer, and Charitilynn (Rockwell) Durrer; Kristie Barnett and his grandchildren, Lawrence “Larry Jr.” Durrer, Michael Durrer, Christopher Surovik, Emily Durrer, Aspen Kingston and her husband, Matthew Kingston, Xander Durrer, Rylee-Ann Durrer, Nevaeh Newman, Rosemary Manga and Jeremiah Neasman and his great-grandchildren; Laurenn Durrer, Violet Durrer, Jonathan Durrer, Malani Kelly, Mia Kelly, he is also survived by numerous extended family members and friends who loved him dearly.Though the road ahead continues without him, Bill’s family will carry his memory with them—in every mile of an open highway, in the quiet of the outdoors, in the stories shared around the table, and in the lives of the children and grandchildren he loved so deeply
