Is this the right choice?

Who this is for — and who it isn't

A good fit when

  • Families whose faith or tradition calls for burial
  • Families with an existing family plot in the valley
  • Veterans and spouses eligible for the Utah Veterans Cemetery
  • Families who want a permanent place to visit

Probably not the right fit if

  • —Families choosing cremation; see cremation services and direct cremation
  • —Families who want the lowest total cost; cemetery fees, a casket and a vault make burial cost more than cremation

The details

What burial at Inspired includes

Burial has three costs, and families are often surprised that only one of them belongs to the funeral home. The first is our service package: $1,795 for a graveside service without a viewing, $1,895 for a funeral service followed by burial, or $2,195 for a funeral with a two-hour visitation and embalming. Each includes the director and staff, the transfer, refrigeration or embalming, preparation, the hearse and service vehicle, the death certificate and the committal at the grave.

The second cost is the casket, which ranges from simple cloth-covered and cremation-style caskets to hardwood and metal. We show every option with its price and never recommend beyond what a family asks for. The third is the cemetery: the plot if you do not already own one, the opening and closing of the grave, and the outer burial container or vault most cemeteries require. We call the cemetery, get those figures, and put all three costs on one contract before you sign.

We work with every cemetery in the valley: Salt Lake City Cemetery in the Avenues, blocks from our office; Mount Olivet; Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park; Larkin Sunset Lawn and Larkin Sunset Gardens; Redwood Memorial Estates; Elysian Burial Gardens in Millcreek; and the Utah Veterans Cemetery and Memorial Park in Bluffdale, where an eligible veteran’s plot, opening and closing, and headstone are provided at no cost.

Embalming is not required for burial in Utah. Our $1,795 and $1,895 packages use refrigeration; embalming is included when a public visitation is part of the plan. If you want a natural burial with no embalming and a biodegradable casket or shroud, see our green burial page.

  • Three costs, one contract

Service package, casket and cemetery are quoted separately and signed together, so there are no surprises at the cemetery office.

  • From $1,795

Graveside burial without a viewing. Funeral and burial from $1,895. Every inclusion on the General Price List.

  • Every valley cemetery

We book the grave, the opening and closing and the vault with the cemetery office for you.

  • Casket at every price point

Cloth-covered, hardwood and metal caskets, and rental caskets when a viewing precedes cremation.

  • Veterans cemetery placement

Plot, opening and closing, and headstone at the Utah Veterans Cemetery at no cost to an eligible veteran, with honors at the grave.

  • Permits and paperwork

Burial transit permit, death certificate and Social Security notification filed by your director.

Questions families ask

Burial questions

Costs, cemeteries and what Utah requires.

Our service packages run from $1,795 for a graveside burial to $2,195 for a funeral with visitation. Add the casket and the cemetery’s fees for the plot, opening and closing, and vault. We quote all three in writing before you sign; a complete burial typically lands well under the Salt Lake County average of about $6,203 for a traditional funeral.

Utah law does not require one, but most cemeteries do, to keep the ground level. We tell you what your cemetery requires and quote the least expensive container that meets it.

No. Utah does not require embalming for burial. We use refrigeration unless you choose a public visitation, in which case embalming is included in the $2,195 package.

You skip the plot cost. We still coordinate the opening and closing, the vault and the timing with the cemetery office, and we need the deed or the cemetery’s record of ownership.

An eligible veteran receives the plot, opening and closing, and a government headstone at no cost, plus honors at the grave. Spouses are also eligible. We file the paperwork; bring the DD-214.

Most burials take place within three to seven days, depending on the cemetery’s schedule and when family can arrive. There is no legal deadline in Utah when refrigeration or embalming is used.
